R crashes when calling xxmWithinMatrix()

I am new to xxM and am working through the tutorial. Everything works until I get to the step where I must call the xxmWithinMatrix() function. At this stage, R crashes (“R for Windows GUI front-end has stopped working”) and closes. This is not a general problem with R and only occurs when I try to call the xxmWithinMatrix() function.
Has anyone else run into this problem? If so, what is the solution?
Any tips are welcome.
